I graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1992 with a degree in illustration. I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. Cloisonné: pronounced Cloy-ZEE-nay! (always best when said with a flourish!) is the process of using delicate silver or gold wires to create drawing lines that separate the different bits of colored enamel.ĪBOUT ME Enamels are my passion. There are as many as 20 layers of glass in each individual piece! After I've added all the layers of glass, I carefully grind and polish it until it sparkles!Ĭhamplevé: pronounced Shamp-lee-VAY is the process of inlaying the colored glass enamels directly into a solid piece of silver, so there’s no need for a separate setting. Then I placed granules of ground up glass (enamels) in between the wires and melted them in the kiln. The lines of the design are actually fine silver wires that I meticulously bent by hand (and tweezers) into the shapes you see. To create this lovely pair of earrings, I first fabricated the silver base out of sheets of fine silver. Though starting a business amid a pandemic was scary, Stone noted she’s been pleasantly surprised by the steady growth and the willingness of the clients to stick with Purple Lotus through all of the ups and downs. “Additionally, we have clients who are brand new to the practice and others who have been practicing for years.” “We have some (clients) who come to every class they can get to and others who come once a week,” Stone said. To date, the studio boasts 135 clients and three additional instructors. The 450-square-foot, former drapery facility can accommodate up to 12 students per session. “So, I decided to open my own studio where I could teach my style of yoga when and how I wanted to.” “I have been teaching some form of fitness for over 20 years, from now strictly yoga, and I wanted a place that felt like a home, and I was hearing the same from a lot of the students I had,” said Stone, who works full time as an analyst for University Hospitals. Tonya Reidy and Karen Potter, foreground, contemplate deeply at Purple Lotus Yoga in Mentor. Stone scoped out different spaces in the building for two years waiting for the right space to open, aiming to build a small community free from a typical commercial strip mall or warehouse environment. Purple Lotus also provides group bachelorette and birthday parties and has even worked with a Girl Scout troop so they could earn their Yoga Badge. Located at 8353 Mentor Ave., Unit 10, in the Corning-White House, Purple Lotus offers group and private lessons, in addition to prenatal yoga classes, the only studio in the area extending the specific format, Stone noted. “When students walk into the studio I want them to feel like they are being wrapped in a hug and told, ‘Everything is OK, you are OK.’ We are an open space for all levels who want to practice in a safe and welcoming community.” “Purple, too, represents wisdom and bravery….it encourages self-exploration, learning, and healing,” she added. “I could have chosen any color but my vision was purple and when you come into the studio, open to all levels of practice, you will feel the healing color on the walls. “It really spoke to me because the lotus represents strength, resilience and rebirth, things that all humans go through in life,” Stone said.
